With deep grief we inform that on April 21st 2016, Hans Koschnick, promoter of the Polish-German dialogue and reconciliation, former President and Mayor of Bremen, member of the Bundestag and long-lasting head of our foundation board passed away.
In Berlin Christoph Heubner, Executive Vice-President of the International Auschwitz Committee, stressed:
For the survivors of the Concentration Camps Hans Koschnick was among those Germans, which enabled them to put their trust in German democracy. Over many difficult and health-draining years he stood up for the interests of the victims of Concentration Camps with great empathy, passion and clarity. Especially important for him was the work of the International Youth Meeting Centre in Auschwitz, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. He facilitated and accompanied its work with his political persistence and clever negotiation skills: The understanding between German and Poles was an essential need for him. Also the fight against the stupidity of antisemitism dominated his political life which was fed by his broad memory.
