It is with deep sorrow that we have to inform you about the passing away of Ignacy Krasnokucki. In the last few years he met with the participants of Auschwitz memorial tours staying at the IYMC as well as took part in international seminars organized by the Educational and Programme Department of the Centre.
Until the outburst of the war Ignacy Krasnokucki lived together with parents and two older brothers in Lodz. In October 1939 his brothers fled in the Soviet Union (only one of them survived). In November they had to move to the future ghetto. His dad left home on January 31, 1940 and is still missing today. Ignacy Krasnokucki had to do different kinds of work in the ghetto, mainly helping the electrician. In April 1940 the ghetto was closed down. On September 31, 1943 his mother died of famine in his own arms. In March 1944 Ignacy Krasnokucki was deported to the concentration camp Częstochowa and afterwards to Buchenwald. He stayed there for one month and then had to work in Sonneberg, outside the concentration camp. Krasnokucki managed to escape from the death march in April 1945 and the US Army released him.
The burial will take place on May 11, 2016, at 12 o’clock at the Communal Cemetery in Tychy-Wartogłowiec.
