On the 1st of October 2019 Karol Tendera – former prisoner of KL Auschwitz and Flossenbürg (Leitmeritz) passed away in the age of 98. In 1940 he was arrested and sent for forced labour to Germany.
After two years, he managed to escape and return to Kraków. In 1943 he was arrested again, he was accused of forging documents. After a brutal interrogation, he was sent to KL Auschwitz. In 1944 he was deported to KL Flossenburg, where he remained up to the liberation.
In his last years, Karol Tendera actively opposed the term “Polish extermination camps”. He was cooperating with the International Youth Meeting Centre in Oświęcim , where he was meeting with groups of youngsters. The last of those meetings, with the students of St. Matthias Gymnasium from Gerolstein / Germany, took place on the 20th of May 2018.
