A HOUSE TO LIVE
A PLACE TO LEARN

We are in the town of Oświęcim to remind about Auschwitz. To convince, that we must learn from the past. We show that Oświęcim can be a place of meetings, reconciliation, and understanding. We are in the town of Oświęcim so that Auschwitz will not be repeated.

Ministers from 5 federal states visit the IYMC

On 7 September, a delegation consisting of Minister Prof. Dr. Benjamin-Immanuel Hoff, Thuringian Minister for Culture, Federal and European Affairs and Head of the State Chancellery, Minister Dr. Manja Schüle, Minister for Science, Research and Culture, Brandenburg, Minister Bettina Martin, Minister for Science, Culture, Federal and European Affairs, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Minister Dr. Carsten Brosda, Senator for Culture and Media, Hamburg, and Minister Falko Mohrs, Minister for Science and Culture, Lower Saxony, were guests at the IYMC.

The delegation was welcomed by our Director, Ms Joanna Klęczar-Déodat, who presented the Foundation's activities for the International Youth Meeting Centre over the past 40 years in the Forum, before she took the delegation to our newly designed "Café Sonia" to emphasise the importance of contemporary witnesses for the existence and work of the IYMC. Afterwards, Mr. Christoph Heubner, Executive Vice President of the International Auschwitz Committee, presented, among other things, the progress of the exhibition building for the Birkenau cycle by Gerhard Richter at the invitation of the ministers.

After a joint lunch, the delegation departed for their next item on the programme, a visit to the Auschwitz II - Birkenau Memorial. We thank the ministers for their visit and their long-standing support for the preservation of our house.
