It is with deep sorrow that we have to inform you about the passing away of Ignacy Krasnokucki. In the last few years he met with the participants of Auschwitz memorial tours staying at the IYMC as well as took part in international seminars organized by the Educational and Programme Department of the Centre.
On the 19th of April 2016 volunteers from the International Youth Meeting Centre in Oświęcim played an active role in the initiative for civic education „Daffodils” initiated by the Museum of the History of Polish Jews (POLIN) to commemorate the 73rd anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.
With deep sorrow we inform that on March the 12th 2016, Rudolf Sarközi, chairman of the Austrian Romani Cultural Society passed away.
On August 27th a ceremony celebrating the planting of a Korbinian apple tree took place at the IYMC. The variety was bred in secret by the priest Korbinian Aigner, during his time as a prisoner of KL Dachau. In 1985, on his 100th birthday, the variety was attributed the name “Korbinian”.

On August the 2nd the main ceremony commemorating the liquidation of the “Zigeunerlager” during the night of the 2-3 August 1944 took place on the grounds of the museum of KL Auschwitz II Birkenau.
The Pedagogical and Programme Department of the IYMC proves the claim that learning is never complete. During a two-day external study trip to Łódź the educators explored its history starting from the prewar industrial period throughout the time of the Nazi occupation, visited the area of the former Litzmannstadt Ghetto and the Radegast train station as well as got acquainted with the work of the Marek Edelman Dialogue Center.
With deep grief we inform that on April 21st 2016, Hans Koschnick, promoter of the Polish-German dialogue and reconciliation, former President and Mayor of Bremen, member of the Bundestag and long-lasting head of our foundation board passed away.
We felt the great need to come to the place, where 70 years ago unspeakable atrocities took place. It is particularly necessary, that many visitors experience history and permanently share the responsibility, that the dead are not forgotten and it will not happen again.
From the 7th -14th of August, for the third time since 2011, the Matzevah Foundation (TMF) from Norcross, Georgia, USA resided at the IYMC. TMF has the purpose to broaden and deepen the dialogue with the Jewish community by restoring and caring for Jewish cemeteries across Poland and by educating the public about the Holocaust.

On the 10th of July 2015 IYMC hosted a delegation from Japanese town Minami – Kyushu: Kampei Shimoide – president of the City Hall, Noriaki Kaneda – director of the General Affairs Department, Mutuo Kuwashiro – vice-director of the Peace Museum Chiran and Yuji Miyata – the Peace Messenger, who visited the IYMC couple months earlier.
