Adam Makowicz
On January 1, 2018, the International Youth Meeting Center invited to the first edition of a new project, addressed to the residents of Oświęcim and the region under the theme "JazzOś. The New Year's Jazz Concert was performed by Adam Makowicz - pianist, legend of Polish and world jazz improvisation.
The event was possible thanks to the gift of prof. Heinz Sünker from Wuppertal, who gave our Centre an almost 100-year-old Feurich piano in excellent condition.
During the recital, the artist presented both his own compositions as well as those of the following: Duke Ellington, Erroll Garner, Cole Porter. The master impressed not only with his brilliant technique but also with his unusual interpretation, arousing a lively reaction among almost 200 guests. After the concert, director Leszek Szuster invited the guests to a joint photo and New Year's toast with Adam Makowicz, wishing and thanking IYMC’ partners and donors for the year-long cooperation.
The income from the tickets sold allowed the IYMC Foundation to contribute to the Maria and Stanisław Neumann Fund, which for 19 years has allowed young people from Oświęcim schools to continue their studies. It is the intention of the organizers that New Year's jazz meetings should become a permanent feature of the House's offer and the "JazzOś" project should open up this genre of music in our city. The concert was organized with the support of the City of Oświęcim and the companies Meta, Omag, Ipsen Logistics and EnCo.
