Since the beginning of the IYMC, our educational work has been supported by volunteers – young Germans from Action Reconciliation Service for Peace (Aktion Sühnezeichen Friedensdienste), and between 1998 and 2022 also young Austrians from Austrian Holocaust Memorial Service (Gedenkdienst). Since 2005, the IYMC has participated as the host and coordinative organization in the program European Volunteer Service of the Foundation for the Development of the Education System (FRSE), welcoming participants from France, Denmark, and the Ukraine. In 2006, we began cooperating with volunteers from the German organization International Cooperation (Iternationaler Bund). All the volunteers live and work in Oświęcim for 12 months.
Over 36 years, 122 young people from Germany, Austria, France, Denmark, Ukraine, and the USA have served as volunteers at the IYMC.
- providing organizational and pedagogical assistance to study groups staying at the IYMC from 4 to 7 days
- supporting the educational process based on a visit to the authentic historical site of KL Auschwitz
- assistance in the preparation and implementation of educational projects for young people from Oświęcim and the surrounding area, as well as international seminars for youth, students, and adults, carried out by the IYMC
Volunteers also give guided tours of Oświęcim to groups, seminar participants, and help in the organization of cultural events at the IYMC: concerts, exhibitions, and lectures which are directed mainly to the residents of Oświęcim.
The Foundation for the International Youth meeting Center in Oświęcim/ Auschwitz holds a European Solidarity Corps Quality Label. The Quality Label certifies that the organization is able to run projects in compliance with the principles and objectives of the European Solidarity Corps.
