Info

During the project in Oświęcim, Lviv and Bergen-Belsen, we will be considering the question: what role do family histories play in building national and transnational memory culture? The period of World War II and the Holocaust, as well as the period of Stalinism and early post-war years will be placed at the centre of our attention. We will visit the Memorial Site Auschwitz-Birkenau in Oświęcim, Memorial Site Bergen-Belsen and historical sites in Lviv. Working with a range of sources, conversations with witnesses of historical events, visiting memorial sites as well as the practical workshops on preparing, conducting and editing the interviews with witnesses and with participants’ family members, will allow the seminar group to gain an insight on the historical events from the transnational perspective and to open a “dialogue” about the similarities, differences and conflicts in this sphere. The website that is being developed during the project, www.dialogue-of-generations.org, will allow sharing own reflections, feelings and observations as well presenting the material which shows participants’ family histories, using selected photos, audio recordings as well as video and interviews conducted with family members.
