LEARNING FROM HISTORY

PREPARATION FOR A VISIT TO THE AUSCHWITZ-BIRKENAU STATE MUSEUM

During the workshop, participants should become aware of the associations they have with the memorial site and what prior knowledge they have already gathered about it at school, through literature, films or other sources. In addition, they should express their expectations and fears in connection with their stay on the grounds of the former extermination camp. The workshop provides basic information about the history, development and function of the camp as well as the mechanisms that led to Auschwitz. The participants will be familiarised with selected terms that will support them during their visit to the memorial site. Some of the lessons take place in the form of group work.
