A HOUSE TO LIVE
A PLACE TO LEARN

We are in the town of Oświęcim to remind about Auschwitz. To convince, that we must learn from the past. We show that Oświęcim can be a place of meetings, reconciliation, and understanding. We are in the town of Oświęcim so that Auschwitz will not be repeated.

Faces of the city - expressions of memory

Between 27.03-02.04.2022, a photographic seminar took place, attended by young people from Poland and Germany.

During the seminar, participants attempted to discover the face of memory, confronting the place of Auschwitz itself and delving into the secrets of the art of photography. The workshops produced photographs that show the present-day Auschwitz Memorial Site from their perspectives. Unique to the participants was the opportunity to take pictures at night on the grounds of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum. The classes on the art of photography were conducted by Professor Witold Jacyków.

As part of preparing to take photographs at the memorial site, the young people met for a discussion with Paweł Sawicki on the symbolism of Auschwitz.

On 01.04. the opening of an exhibition took place, which showed the results of the work of the seminar participants.

The seminar was financed by the funds of German-Polish Youth Cooperation (GPYO) under the grant Preserve Memory (Zachować Pamięć).
