A HOUSE TO LIVE
A PLACE TO LEARN

We are in the town of Oświęcim to remind about Auschwitz. To convince, that we must learn from the past. We show that Oświęcim can be a place of meetings, reconciliation, and understanding. We are in the town of Oświęcim so that Auschwitz will not be repeated.

Gerhard Richter's 90th birthday

Our warmest wishes to Mr. Gerhard Richter on the occasion of his 90th birthday.  It is a source of pride and honor for us that paintings of the series "Birkenau", an outstanding work of art inspired by photographs taken secretly by Sonderkommando prisoners, will soon hopefully be permanently exhibited in a dedicated pavilion, which will be built on the IYMC grounds. This is possible thanks to the decision of the artist to entrust his work to the International Auschwitz Committee for presentation in Oświęcim.

“Auschwitz survivors believe that Gerhard Richter's paintings are not only an expression of his empathy towards them and all those murdered in Auschwitz, but also proof that the artistic confrontation with what happened in Auschwitz will never end" according to Christoph Heubner, executive vice-president of the International Auschwitz Committee.
