INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR FOR VOLUNTEERS

OF THE ACTION RECONCILIATION FOR PEACE

Every year, Action Reconciliation for Peace proposes a study trip for volunteers as part of the international programme of volunteering in Germany. Volunteers come from different countries around Europe, among others also from Germany, USA and Israel. The goal of the seminar is to give them an opportunity to have a discussion about Auschwitz and the Holocaust in the context of the different places and cultures they come from, and the discourses and narratives which dominate in their countries of origin.

The originally planned one-week study trip to Oświęcim and Krakow had to be cancelled due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Instead of the seminar, a cycle of thematic online meetings was offered in the period June-August 2020.

The following topics were dealt with in the 9 meetings: Cultures of remembrance in connection with Auschwitz and the Holocaust, individual work with biographies of former prisoners or perpetrators of the Shoah and their presentation, persecution of lesbian women in the NS as well as dealing with and remembering the end of the war.
