A HOUSE TO LIVE
A PLACE TO LEARN

We are in the town of Oświęcim to remind about Auschwitz. To convince, that we must learn from the past. We show that Oświęcim can be a place of meetings, reconciliation, and understanding. We are in the town of Oświęcim so that Auschwitz will not be repeated.

Online vernissage 8th International Socio-Political Poster Biennale

On  December 11th  2020, the IYMC hosted the vernissage and the award ceremony of the VIII. International Socio-Political Poster Biennale, co-organized by the International Auschwitz Committee. The long-awaited vernissage, of which the implementation in its traditional form on October 16th this year was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, was conducted online in Polish, German and English. The temporary studio, into which the IYMC Forum Room was transformed for this evening, was hosted by Director Leszek Szuster together with Joanna Klęczar-Déodat and Biennale curator Paweł Warchoł. The guests of the vernissage: project partners, artists, and jurors, were connected via the Zoom platform, and the entire event was broadcasted live on the IYMC's You Tube channel. Particularly important for us, the organizers, was the message from Marian Turski, an Auschwitz survivor, historian, journalist, Chairman of the Council of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews POLIN in Warsaw, and Friend of the House, who has been supporting our Poster Biennale for years. An introductory lecture on poster art was given by the director of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow MOCAK, Dr Anna Maria Potocka.  The artistic setting was created by Izabela Walczybok, an actress - mime of the Teatr Dźwięku i Ruchu (Sound and Movement Theatre), who interpreted the posters awarded by the Jury in a musical setting by Jacek Hołubowski, Mateusz Pliniewicz and Piotr Skupniewicz.

We are glad that the vernissage was attended by many of the awarded artists and representatives of almost all the project partners, who are:

The Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, City of Oświęcim, City of Dachau, Oświęcim County, District of Dachau, Consulate General of Germany in Cracow, AnStifter Foundation, Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, University of Silesia in Katowice, Association of Polish Artists.
