A HOUSE TO LIVE
A PLACE TO LEARN

We are in the town of Oświęcim to remind about Auschwitz. To convince, that we must learn from the past. We show that Oświęcim can be a place of meetings, reconciliation, and understanding. We are in the town of Oświęcim so that Auschwitz will not be repeated.

Study tours for the Future Volunteers of ACTION RECONCILIATION SERVICE FOR PEACE

ACTION RECONCILIATION SERVICE FOR PEACE (Aktion Sühnezeichen Friedensdienste) offers study tours to Poland for the future volunteers in preparation for their service. The memorial seminars are a freely selectable part of the preparation for the voluntary service, which the volunteers from Germany start in September and perform in Europe, USA and Israel.

The goal of these study tours is to open up new approaches to history for the volunteers through intensive familiarization with the historical sites. Many of the volunteers work in memorials, places of remembrance or museums, and come into contact with survivors of these concentration camps or their relatives during their voluntary service. These tours give them the opportunity to deal with the history of National Socialism in preparation for their service and thus to understand the background against which the work of Action Reconciliation Service for Peace and thus also the work in the voluntary service takes place. In addition, the seminars enable the participants to get to know today's Poland and to learn more about the history and culture of the neighboring country.

During the one-week seminars at the memorial sites Majdanek and Belzec (July 17-23, 2022) and Auschwitz (July 24-30, 2022), the young people from Germany had the opportunity to deal intensively with the Holocaust and the history of the concentration camps.

The project was supported by the Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth and IBB gGmbH.
