A HOUSE TO LIVE
A PLACE TO LEARN

We are in the town of Oświęcim to remind about Auschwitz. To convince, that we must learn from the past. We show that Oświęcim can be a place of meetings, reconciliation, and understanding. We are in the town of Oświęcim so that Auschwitz will not be repeated.

The IYMC hosted Mrs. Bärbel Bas, president of the Bundestag

On August 1, the IYMC hosted Mrs. Bärbel Bas, president of the Bundestag. This was the first visit of a politician holding this position to our House and the Auschwitz Memorial. Mrs. Bas came to the Meeting Center after visiting the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum.

The meeting with Mrs. Bas was attended by representatives of the Board of Directors of the Foundation for the IYMC - Deidre Berger and Bertina Murkovic, director Joanna Klęczar-Déodat, and members of the Education and Programme Department - Judith Hoehne-Krawczyk and Jerzy Wójcik. The program of the visit also included a conversation with the participants of the Polish-German-Ukrainian seminar "Light in the Darkness," during which Ms. Bas answered questions from the young people related mainly to their reflections from visiting the site of the Auschwitz camp, as well as Ukraine's support in the war with Russia. Participants in the seminar presented an excerpt from the play "Light in the Darkness. Despite everything, say YES to life." The final highlight of the visit was a guided tour of the Gerhard Richter Birkenau exhibition pavilion by Jérôme Déodat.

We feel honored to be on the map of Ms. Bas's journey in Auschwitz. We also hope that this is not her last visit to our Center.
