On the border of two worlds

history and present time

The exhibition of the work of Paweł Warchoł and Waldemar Rudyk is an artistic reference to two "worlds": the history and present of the city of Oświęcim. The coexistence of these two "worlds" is transferred to the areas of political, economic and social life, as well as educational and cultural activities. The aim of the exhibition is to familiarize the audience with the complicated coexistence of two "worlds" - an area associated with the historical heritage (the former concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau) and the contemporary city of Oświęcim, almost 40,000 inhabitants, boasting 800 years of history.

Both artists are recognized creators (Paweł Warchoł is a European valued draughtsman and has received several dozen international awards), and their art juxtaposed by contrast: the historical heritage of Auschwitz with the contemporary city of Oświęcim and its surroundings (Waldemar Rudyk works and creates in the neighboring city of Chełmek) is an exemplary clash of two artistic worlds and diverse creative techniques. On the one hand, large-format ink drawings - the hallmark of Paweł Wachoł's style (included in the series, among others: The second is paintings and installations made of ecological materials (wood, paper, sheet metal) and large spatial forms made of wicker and wood offcuts by Waldemar Rudyk. Together they complete the image of a city which, without forgetting the past, creates a brighter future.

There is a possibility of an unconventional tour of the exhibition by the M. O. L. O. band (Jacek Hołubowski, Mateusz Pliniewicz, Piotr Skupniewicz), which composed 7 pieces specially for this project, which are musical illustrations of the work of both artists. The project is accompanied by a unique Polish-German catalogue by Ewa Natkaniec, containing a text by Małgorzata Gwóźdź.
